Steve Spurrier, like the rest of Gator Nation, can’t get over all the points Florida left on the field at Tennessee.
Appearing on Pat Dooley’s Another Dooley Noted Podcast, Spurrier expressed hope that the UF offense can start making more of its opportunities to put points on the board. Trey Wallace of Outkick captured the clip.
“DJ Lagway, I guess he’s our man now…” Spurrier said. “Maybe we can turn a corner and start scoring all those times and not have those 12 guys on the field.”

One of the stats that haunts Florida from Saturday’s 23-17 loss at Tennessee is 4 trips to the red zone with zero touchdowns in the 1st half. The Gators managed a field goal, their only points of the 1st half, on their second possession. Florida later turned the ball over on downs at the Tennessee 18-yard and fumbled inside the 1-yard line. UF was set to kick a field goal at the end of the half, but the referenced 12 men on the field penalty resulted in the clock expiring, keeping the Gators from making a second attempt.
While Lagway’s arm strength and dual-threat capabilities may present new opportunities in how opponents defend the Gators, Florida enters a difficult stretch for any offensive improvements.
Kentucky, UF’s Week 8 opponent, is allowing just 14.5 points per game, which ranks No. 4 in the SEC. Billy Napier’s squad gets a bye after the UK contest before it begins the November gauntlet of games against Georgia, Texas, LSU and Ole Miss to wrap SEC play. Texas has the SEC’s top scoring defense at 6.3 points per game, while Georgia is No. 7 in the conference at 17.2
