Steve Spurrier’s new restaurant gives a nod to his famous quote about Tennessee

Steve Spurrier opened a new restaurant in the Gainesville area on Wednesday and as expected, he made mention of one of his chief rivals while coaching the Florida Gators.
On the menu is one of Spurrier’s most famous quotes about Tennessee, “You can’t spell Citrus without U-T,” a direct shot at how many times the Vols played in the Citrus Bowl, and missed out on the Sugar Bowl.
Another interesting tidbit passed along from Greg Auman of The Athletic is Ike Hilliard is the only former Gator to have a mention on the menu. The blackened redfish is the Ike Hilliard Catch of the Day.
The restaurant’s web site describes what Spurrier will offer customers:
The bar and grill will celebrate Gator Football’s legacy of success while offering an elevated American-casual dining atmosphere and a rare Gainesville rooftop bar named ‘Visors’ overlooking the Celebration Pointe Promenade and outdoor entertainment venue. The menu will incorporate some of Coach’s favorite foods: avocado-topped burgers, grilled chicken, seafood, pasta, salads and desserts inspired by his wife Jerri’s recipes like pecan pie a la mode and homemade chocolate chip cookies, which have been longtime favorites of former Florida players like Danny Wuerffel and James Bates.
So Spurrier’s Gridiron Grille opens today and a friend in Gainesville reports back that the menu has a nod to the Vols and “you can’t spell Citrus without U-T.” pic.twitter.com/CQVxlNwDlM
