Who should take over for Jim McElwain at Florida? Social media weighs in
By Keith Farner
Published:
Florida reportedly is parting ways with coach Jim McElwain and there have been reports of meetings this afternoon.
Since discussions and reports began in recent days, lists of coaches have been developed by fans and the media to replace the third-year coach. The possible candidates range from up-and-comers to established veterans with proven resumes.
Former Florida and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier was repeatedly mentioned as a candidate, at least tongue in cheek.
Iowa State coach Matt Campbell, who has led his team to two top 10 upsets this season, including Saturday against TCU, is another possibility. The Cyclones are 6-2 and ranked No. 25. They earlier beat then-No. 3 Oklahoma and had an overtime near upset of Iowa.
Central Florida coach Scott Frost, most notably tied to his alma mater of Nebraska, and Justin Fuente, in his second year at Virginia Tech and formerly at Memphis, was also a long shot.

If Justin Fuente & Matt Campbell aren't first 2 names for #Gators & 2-3 other jobs to open…colleges paying big $$$ to bad search firms

Florida should correct course and make the hire it *should* have made seven years ago. pic.twitter.com/5aTpkePQ1V
