UCF reportedly loses 2nd player to redshirt decision ahead of Florida matchup
UCF is gearing up for a key in-state matchup against Florida in Week 6. However, the Knights are reportedly losing some pieces of the roster ahead of that game.
Early Thursday, it was revealed that wide receiver and return specialist Xavier Townsend has decided to redshirt and is planning on investigating the transfer portal. Townsend is UCF’s 2nd-leading receiver with 10 catches on the year through 4 games and also has 88 rushing yards. He has also served as the primary return man for the Knights.
Now, it is UCF’s defense that is reportedly losing a piece to the puzzle. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, defensive back Bryon Threats has revealed his plans to the coaching staff that he will redshirt and transfer. Threats began his career at Cincinnati and has 19 career starts as a veteran contributor.

Threats did not make a major impact in the first 4 games of the season with 7 total tackles and a TFL. However, he does have 130 total career tackles, 4 interceptions and 9 pass breakups, so he does have extensive collegiate experience.
The Knights are off to a solid start to the season going 3-1 under Gus Malzahn with the only loss coming vs. Colorado. However, losing contributors ahead of a crucial game against Florida puts an ominous feeling over UCF heading into the weekend.
We’ll see if Billy Napier and the Gators can capitalize with a win on Saturday.
