UF president: 'I don't want another Charlie Weis' for OC
Newly hired Florida head coach Jim McElwain spoke to the media for the first time since accepting the position on Thursday.
One of McElwain’s first duties as Florida’s head coach will be to fill out his coaching staff, including the all-important position of offensive coordinator.
Florida president Bernie Machen reportedly chimed in after McElwain’s presser with his thoughts on who McElwain should hire by joking about a coach who was the Gators’ offensive coordinator just a few years ago.

To be clear for everyone retweeting that Machen quote, I overheard him say it to Florida assistant AD.

Charlie Weis was Will Muschamp’s first offensive coordinator hire back in 2010 shortly after becoming the Gators’ head coach. Things didn’t go too well for Weis, either. The Gators went just 6-6 and were 10th in the SEC in total offense (328.7 ypg) and eighth in points per game (25.5 points per game).
Shortly after the 2011 season, Weis accepted an offer to become the head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks, only to be fired a few weeks into this season.
