After legendary rocker and Gainesville native Tom Petty passed away at the age of 66 this week, the Florida Gators decided to honor him between the third and fourth quarters of Saturday’s game against LSU.
What song of Petty’s goes well with football? Of course, it’s “I Won’t Back Down,” which is tailor-made for a team trailing by one point going into the fourth quarter.
As you can see in the two videos below, The Swamp was absolutely rocking when Petty’s song came over the loudspeakers:

Just try to watch those videos without getting chills. It clearly pumped up the Florida crowd, as they had new life heading into the final quarter of play.
Petty may be gone from this world too soon, but his legacy will never be forgotten. Perhaps the Gators have a new tradition in the making with “I Won’t Back Down” being played heading into the fourth quarter.
