WATCH: West Virginia starts 2018 Heisman campaign for QB Will Grier
Oh, what could have been for the Florida Gators.
As the West Virginia Mountaineers prepare for the 2018 season, they’ll do so with Will Grier — a former Florida player who has turned into one of the top quarterbacks in the nation.
Under coach Dana Holgorsen, Grier has thrived, and now he has very real Heisman Trophy hopes. In fact, on Sunday, the Mountaineers teased a Heisman campaign for their star quarterback, which will launch in earnest on July 7 (Grier’s jersey is No. 7):
In 11 games last season, Grier threw for 3,490 yards and 34 touchdowns, to go with only 12 interceptions. He’ll have to improve those numbers if he wants to win the Heisman, but it’s certainly possible for the talented athlete.
Meanwhile, the Gators’ quarterback situation is still unsettled, though new coach Dan Mullen has a track record of developing star quarterbacks and should get the position back on track sooner rather than later.
Why would anyone consider voting for a player that left Florida after being suspended for PED’s?
If he puts up the numbers, i don’t see why you wouldn’t vote for him just bc he left Florida, and honestly if they would have had a competent coach at the time he’d prolly still be there.
Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens, two of the best to ever play the game of baseball, are not in the Hall of Fame because of that crap. If I had a vote, I’d not consider Grier. Not that a QB from a mediocre team like WV has a prayer anyway.
He served his time…which was a pretty rough sentence. If he passes a test now, I would have no problem voting for him. Kids make mistakes, as long as they learn from them.
I agree, but unfortunately a player’s character doesn’t hold as much weight in the Heisman voting as I would like. Put up the stats and that’s all that matters, as evidenced by Scam Newton’s trophy in 2010…
Someone is butt hurt that Cam couldn’t stay out of trouble while in the Gainesville State Correctional Facility. You can’t blame a kid for making a mistake in that slum filled with convicts and murderers.
He’s got a good shot at it. Drew Lock is the better talent but Grier gets to play for Holgorsen. Would love to have him at Mizzou.
The Will to cheat!
