Oh, what could have been for the Florida Gators.

As the West Virginia Mountaineers prepare for the 2018 season, they’ll do so with Will Grier — a former Florida player who has turned into one of the top quarterbacks in the nation.

Under coach Dana Holgorsen, Grier has thrived, and now he has very real Heisman Trophy hopes. In fact, on Sunday, the Mountaineers teased a Heisman campaign for their star quarterback, which will launch in earnest on July 7 (Grier’s jersey is No. 7):

In 11 games last season, Grier threw for 3,490 yards and 34 touchdowns, to go with only 12 interceptions. He’ll have to improve those numbers if he wants to win the Heisman, but it’s certainly possible for the talented athlete.

Meanwhile, the Gators’ quarterback situation is still unsettled, though new coach Dan Mullen has a track record of developing star quarterbacks and should get the position back on track sooner rather than later.
