Will Richard is considering a jump to the pros after three seasons of college basketball.

Richard, a transfer from Belmont, has played for Todd Golden’ the past two seasons. He announced Wednesday that he will test the NBA Draft waters while maintaining college eligibility.

If Richard continues his college career, it will be with the Gators.

“I’m excited to announce that I will be declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft while maintaining my eligibility,” Richard wrote in a note posted on X. “In the event that I return to college, I will be returning to no other than the University of Florida. I have every desire to fulfill my dreams of playing in the NBA and will allow for the process, and feedback from NBA teams to make a draft decision. As always, #GoGators!”

Richard had solid junior season at Florida

Richard was a regular starter in Golden’s Season 2 lineup. Appearing in all 36 games with 36 starts, Richard was a solid contributor from the guard spot, averaging 11.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game for the 2023-24 Gators.

Richard specializes in shooting the 3-ball. He had a career-high 70 triples this past season, shooting 34.5% from 3-point range.

More often than not, Richard scored in double figures (20-of-36 games). Six times he cleared the 20-point mark.

In one of UF’s biggest wins of the season, Richard had his biggest night. In the home win over then-No. 16 Alabama, Richard led the Gators with 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, including 3-of-5 from 3-point territory.

Florida’s 2024-25 roster situation

Richard joins Walter Clayton Jr. in declaring for the draft while maintaining eligibility. Getting both to comeback would provide a solid core for the Gators to build off of following their first trip to the NCAA Tournament under Golden.

While keeping spots open for Richard and Clayton, Golden added Chattanooga transfer forward Sam Alexis to the 2024-25 roster. UF is losing Tyrese Samuel and Zyon Pullin to graduation, while Riley Kugel and Aleks Szymczyk have entered the transfer portal.

June 16 is the deadline for withdrawing from the NBA Draft.
