Florida State will not hold spring game in 2025 due to stadium construction
Florida State will not host a Spring Showcase football game this year because of ongoing construction at historic Doak Campbell Stadium, the program announced on Tuesday.
Because of that construction, the next time Doak Campbell Stadium hosts a football game of any type will be on Aug. 30 for the Seminoles’ 2025 season opener. The opponent that day in Tallahassee will be none other than Alabama, so the next time Florida State fans pack their home stadium will come in a spotlight game against the Crimson Tide.
The renovations to Doak Campbell Stadium come with a heavy price tag of $265 million, so the venerable stadium that’s hosted so many big games through the decades should look incredible in the fall of 2025. There will also be new season-ticket seating for the most loyal Seminole fans, which are slated to come with an upgraded fan experience.
While its home stadium gets a fresh coat of paint for next season, FSU will be hoping for a fresh start on the field, too. The Seminoles suffered through a 2-10 season in 2024, which is the worst-ever record for a preseason Top 10 team. The disastrous season began with a heartbreaking loss to Georgia Tech in Ireland and got worse from there.
