Mike Norvell and Florida State’s coaching staff have begun to turn their attention to 2025.

At 1-7, Florida State is already mathematically eliminated from reaching a bowl game this season. The Seminoles have been arguably the most disappointing team in the country this year coming off of a 13-0 start to the 2023 campaign.

With no choice but to look forward to the future, Norvell indicated Monday that the process toward fixing holes in the roster has already begun.

“I’m really excited about a lot of the young players that we have,” Norvell said. “I’m excited about the development that I’ve seen from them over the course of the year and I also know that we have positions where we have a need. And we need to go and add elite-level players to that position to come in here and complement what we have here on the roster currently.”

It certainly sounds as though Florida State will be putting resources toward transfer portal recruiting this winter. That’s been the norm over the past couple of seasons under Norvell. FSU took 17 transfers in 2024 and 12 transfers in 2023. Both transfer classes ranked in the top 10 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

It’s also worth noting that Florida State’s 2025 high school class has lost numerous members in recent weeks, which could lead to a greater reliance on the portal in the immediate and long-term future. FSU currently has 11 commits in the 2025 cycle. Five prospects — all of whom are ranked in the top 200 of the Composite rankings — have decommitted from Florida State since the start of September.

FSU is set to host North Carolina this weekend.
