After a breakout freshman season at LSU in 2020 in which he had 35 catches for 368 yards and 2 touchdowns, Arik Gilbert transferred out of the program.

Gilbert was originally supposed to go to Florida, but then he backed off that pledge and ended up at Georgia.

However, during Saturday’s scrimmage, Gilbert was absent. Coach Kirby Smart spoke with the media after the scrimmage and said Gilbert is away from the team in order to deal with some personal issues:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with him now as he deals with those personal issues,” Smart said. “And we hope to get him back soon.”

Gilbert switched from tight end to wide receiver when he came to Georgia. He is expected to be a big part of Georgia’s revamped passing game. We’ll see how long this absence lasts.
