Broderick Jones is officially a first-round draft pick!

At the 2023 NFL Draft on Thursday night in Kansas City, the star Georgia offensive lineman was chosen with the No. 14 overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers traded with the New England Patriots to move up 3 spots in order to select Jones.

Jones had a strong performance at the NFL Combine in February in Indianapolis, clocking in at just under 5 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He was a key player on Georgia’s back-to-back national title-winning teams. He started all 15 games at left tackle in 2022. In 2021, he played in every game, making 4 starts.

Jones is a beast in both pass protection and run blocking. He has enough speed to get out in front of ball carriers on edge runs and screen passes. In general, his movement is strong for a lineman of his size. He holds his own against elite edge rushers in pass protection. And his football IQ is a major asset:

Roman Harper, an SEC Network analyst, has Jones as the No. 5 offensive player from the SEC in the 2023 draft class, behind fellow OL Darnell Wright and a trio of talented quarterbacks:

Can Jones step into a starting role right away? We’ll see what the 2023 NFL season holds for the ex-Bulldog now that he’s officially a first-round pick!
