Former Georgia quarterback D.J. Shockley knows Georgia’s roster is loaded, but the one storyline he’s watching this year is how the wide receiver position develops.

The Bulldogs lost their top four receivers from last year, not including tight end Isaac Nauta, and it’s the biggest area of concern for a Bulldogs’ roster that’s expected to compete for an SEC Championship. UGA needs two or three receivers to step up and fill vacancies.

Mecole Hardman (left for NFL), Riley Ridley (left for the NFL), Terry Godwin (graduated) and Jeremiah Holloman (kicked off team) are all gone. The Dawgs top returning receiver is Tyler Simmons, who recorded just nine catches in 2018.

“I think that’s the biggest thing you look at when you talk about storylines for Georgia,” Shockley said while on the SEC Network. “They’re good all around the board. They have a lot of playmakers, but it comes down to who’s going to be the playmaker for Fromm.

“I think this is going to be the biggest test for Fromm in this season is, ‘Who am I going to throw the football to?'”

Georgia signed Miami transfer Lawrence Cager, who could play a significant role. Also, Demetris Robertson is back and hopefully ready to have a breakout season. True freshman George Pickens should also be a contributor, as he was ranked as the nation’s No. 4 receiver in the class of 2019.

The key guy for Georgia is Robertson. He has all the tools and talent necessary to be a home run threat and a big-time playmaker. He’s shown flashes in the past, but he has yet to put anything substantial together.
