Fans upset with the offensive coordinator of their favorite team is typically an annual occurrence in college football. For Georgia, following the upset loss to South Carolina, that means it’s this week for first-year coordinator James Coley.

“Petition to fire UGA OC James Coley,” is the title of a movement on change.org following the 20-17 double overtime loss to the Gamecocks.

Georgia had 4 turnovers, and was 9-for-18 on third down conversions. Georgia rushed 43 times for 173 yards, as the Bulldogs played without RB Brian Herrien, who was out with back spasms. D’Andre Swift ran 23 times for 113 yards and a TD, but many fans were critical that the team continued to run the ball up the middle with limited success.

Here is the description of the petition: “UGA Offensive Coordinator James Coley single-handedly made us lose against South Carolina at home. He made our team a national embarrassment and that is unforgivable. He has no right to be an FBS coach, let alone a UGA coach. He must be out of Athens ASAP! Please sign, and tell every UGA and CFB fan to sign as well so that justice can be served! #FireColey.”

Coley, who is also well-known for recruiting South Florida, is in his first-year after Jim Chaney left for the same position at Tennessee.

While Chaney received some criticism, it was noticeably less than previous OCs at Georgia like Brian Schottenheimer and Mike Bobo. “Run the ball, Bobo” was a regular refrain at Georgia, and he’s perhaps most remembered for not running the ball in 2014 with Todd Gurley on a play near the goal line against South Carolina.
