Daylen Everette has been named MVP of the SEC Championship Game.

The Georgia cornerback made a huge impact on the game, picking off Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers twice. He was also credited with 2 tackles, 1 pass breakup and 1 quarterback hurry.

Everette is just the 4th defensive player ever to win the award in the 33-year history of the SEC Championship Game. He’s the first to do it since LSU’s Tyrann Mathieu way back in 2011 when the Tigers crushed Georgia 42-10. Florida’s Ellis Johnson (1994) and Alabama’s Antonio Langham (1996) are the others.

Georgia certainly won this game with its effort on the defensive side of the ball. The Bulldogs held Texas to just 4 yards per playin the second half. Although Quinn Ewers was productive overall (358 passing yards), his 2 interceptions to Everette proved to be costly for the Longhorns.

With this win over Texas, Georgia has clinched a first-round bye in this year’s College Football Playoff. Georgia will now await its place in the final College Football Playoff rankings. The Bulldogs are expected to earn the No. 2 seed when the final rankings are revealed on ESPN on Sunday afternoon.
