Without a doubt, the biggest question mark on offense in Athens heading into the 2019 season is the program’s receivers. Not because the group lacks talent but because the group has yet to prove themselves at the SEC level.

One member of the group that has proven himself in college, just not yet in the nation’s toughest conference, could be the biggest x-factor for Georgia in the offense’s first year under coordinator James Coley. Just how much can the staff get out of Demetris Robertson? That remains to be seen but Kirby Smart has already noted the Robertson’s growth this training camp.

“I think he’s probably more prepared for the level of competition this year,” Smart said of Robertson during his first presser of training camp. “Demetris Robertson competed well and had a great spring. He’s fast, explosive, and understands the system a little better. He’s more prepared for the competition he’s going to face.”

Next up to speak to the media regarding Georgia’s speed demon of a receiver was Coley, who met with the media on Monday. How big of a role will Robertson have in the offense, especially considering all the offseason losses the group has suffered?

That remains up to Robertson, according to his offensive coordinator.

“Coming out of spring, D-Rob has continued to improve. Within our system, he’s definitely a guy that has a great skill set — he’s fast, he’s quick. We have just got to continue to develop him into the type of player we need him to be,” Coley said on Monday. “Right now, he’s playing multiple spots, so as a player, he is growing. I think that’s the biggest part for him, continue to grow within our system.”

According to Coley, Georgia has been waiting on the receiver to develop his game outside of his speed and pure athleticism. While that has been a process, they are beginning to see the work pay off during training camp.

“Coming out of high school, he was a really good athlete and now that he went to college, he is learning to be a wide receiver,” Coley added. “I think Coach [Cortez] Hankton has done a good job with him. I like what I see right now, I just want to see it continue. I want to see some consistency from these guys.”
