Devin Willock’s father has reportedly filed a $2 million lawsuit in what may become the first civil action involving a fatal car crash that rocked the school’s champion football program, the AJC reported.

In a legal notice, lawyers have disputed the university’s version of crash that killed 2 people, Willock, an offensive lineman, and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy. Excessive speed, and no seatbelt use were listed as roles in the fatal January crash.

Georgia has had several honors in memory of Willock and LeCroy in recent months, and most recently at the G-Day spring game, the Bulldogs lined up without a left guard on offense for the first play, and players took their helmets off to pay tribute to Willock and LeCroy and hugged one another after the penalty.

Police investigators said a 2021 Ford Expedition “failed to negotiate a left curve, resulting in the vehicle striking the curb with its front passenger tire and leaving the roadway on the west shoulder.”

The SUV struck a power pole and another utility pole, and sliced them in half, before striking a tree on the rear passenger quarter panel. That sent the vehicle spinning in a clockwise direction before it crashed into another tree on the driver’s side — where both LeCroy and Willock were sitting.
