When asked about who’s better between All-American tight end candidates Georgia’s Brock Bowers and Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer, ESPN College football analyst Greg McElroy almost punted.

“What would you want your tight end to be would be the first question that I’d ask,” McElroy said.

From there the former Alabama quarterback spoke about the skill set of both players crediting Mayer with being more well-rounded and Bowers with being more dynamic.

“I think Michael Mayer is a lot like [Rob] Gronkowski,” McElroy said. “Very willing to be active at the line of scrimmage, very dependable, pretty sure-handed and does a good job in all aspects of the game.”

“I think Brock Bowers is a little bit more like Travis Kelce, or prior to him, Jimmy Graham….Gonna catch a ton of passes, going get great volume, you can use him a bunch of way.”

McElroy eventually made a selection, but clearly has a lot of respect for what both players bring to the table.
