Former Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey is having himself a game in Los Angeles in Week 8.

The Chargers’ rookie receiver snagged a deep ball and put the moves on a couple of defenders to score a 60-yard touchdown and put the Chargers ahead by 11 in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. In fact, it was the Chargers’ first second-half touchdown since Week 1.

McConkey had to jump to snag the ball away from Saints corner Alontae Taylor. Then, the talented wideout cut inside to avoid another defensive back and got through a tackle attempt by Taylor for the score. It put the Chargers up 16-5 over the Saints.

It also pushed McConkey over 100 receiving yards in the game, making him the first rookie receiver with 100 yards and a touchdown in a game for the organization since Keenan Allen in 2013.

The score was McConkey’s third as a pro. Entering Week 8, McConkey had 24 catches for 265 yards and 2 TDs.

The Georgia native entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. McConkey was considered one of the top receivers in that draft after a productive college career in Athens.

Through 39 games with the Bulldogs, McConkey caught 119 passes for 1,687 yards and 14 TDs. The WR also rushed for 216 yards and 4 TDs as a Bulldog. McConkey won 2 national championships with the Bulldogs and earned Second-team All-SEC honors in 2022.

So far, McConkey has impressed in the NFL. The receiver already has chemistry with quarterback Justin Herbert and fits in well in Jim Harbaugh’s scheme. With a win in Week 8, the Chargers would improve to 4-3 on the season.
