Nearly a week ago, Georgia announced that sophomore defensive back JJ Green would be transferring out of the program, and now it appears he won’t be going very far.

Per a report from Ryan Bartow of 247sports.com, Green will transfer to Georgia Tech, UGA’s in-state rivals.

Despite taking over at defensive back this season, Green cited his desire to play on offense as the reasoning for wanting to leave UGA. Green, who was recruited as an athlete, played running back for the ‘Dawgs as a freshman and was considered to be an option to help bolster depth in the backfield earlier this season during Todd Gurley’s suspension.

The move make sense for Green if he wants to be a running back because of Georgia’s impressive depth already at the position with Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and Keith Marshall all slated to return in 2015.

Green will sit out next season and then have two years of eligibility remaining.
