Hines Ward, a four-time Pro Bowl player and a former Georgia wide receiver, made his opinion known about the Bulldogs’ quarterback quandary.

Ward, speaking at a satellite camp in Buford, Georgia, told reporters Thursday that he would start true freshman Jacob Eason if given the chance. Eason, a five-star signee as ranked by the 247Sports Composite, impressed during the Bulldogs’ G-Day spring game in April, completing 19 of 29 passes for 244 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.

It will be interesting to see if coach Kirby Smart takes Ward’s advice. Eason, who’s from Lake Stevens, Washington, is expected to compete for the starting job with senior Greyson Lambert and junior Brice Ramsey. This is a good problem for Smart to have during his first season in Athens, but that doesn’t make his decision any easier.

It’s obvious Eason will have his time in the spotlight as Georgia’s starter. How soon that moment arrives remains a question.
