Georgia Athletics Director Josh Brooks met with athletics board on Thursday at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge on Lake Oconee to discuss the athletics department and the upcoming seasons.

Among the issues he discussed was that Sanford Stadium would have 100 percent capacity, and that means more than 92,000 fans at the home opener against UAB.

“I cannot wait for that first home game,” Brooks said, per the Athens Banner-Herald.

However, a noteworthy update from Brooks also was that fans will see price cuts of close to 50 percent for some concession stand items: $2 Bottled water, $2.50 bottled soda, $2.50 hot dogs, $2 candy and $2 for a small popcorn and $5 for a large popcorn bucket.

“I’ve been in enough of our venues and I’ve watched a family walk up to a concession stand,” Brooks said. “I don’t want that family of four to pay $40 or more to feed their family. That’s not the experience I want to create.”

He said the model is similar to what is done at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena and Augusta National Golf Club.

Georgia will continue to use mobile only ticketing that it implemented last season during the pandemic. That cuts down on expenses for printing and shipping and the move to lower concession prices is passed along to fans.

“It’s not always about profits at every turn,” he said.
