Georgia on cusp of historically bad home record in SEC play
Kirby Smart’s inaugural season in Athens hasn’t gotten off to the smoothest of starts.
The Bulldogs currently sit at 5-4 — 3-4 in conference play. There’s still a chance — albeit a small one — that Georgia can win the SEC East.
In order to accomplish this goal, Georgia must go unscathed the remainder of the way. This starts with a home date versus a red-hot Auburn squad on Saturday.
Strange stat of the day: If Georgia loses to Auburn, the Bulldogs will go winless at home against SEC teams for the first time since 1962.

This contest marks the final conference home game in 2016. Should Georgia lose this game, it will mark the first time since 1962 in which the ‘Dawgs have gone winless at home versus SEC competition.
Expect Georgia to come out amped for this contest — especially considering the fact it now has momentum coming off the big road win at Kentucky.
Well Kirby did say he was coming to UGA to set records……
That infamous Mark Richt 9-win season sounds pretty good right now I bet… Thanks for getting rid of him for us lol
“…especially considering the fact it now has momentum coming off the big road win at Kentucky…” said no one ever not talking about basketball
“This starts with a home date versus a red-hot Auburn squad on Saturday.” When was the last time anyone equated a 7-point win over Vandy as with being “red hot”?
I would say that’s a pretty good win seeing how Vandy thumped the Dawgs on their home field.
Man, sure is quiet in dog land. Y’all have the biggest mouths in the SEC. All the trash talk about Muschamp looks like we got the better end of the deal. Kirby Smart always looked like he could be a Brad Scott. Glad y’all got him and not us.
It’s been a rough year. The loss to Tennessee broke our back and the rest is history. Win one game at a time now. But on the upside we beat y’all so there’s that. Go Dawgs!
Says the Cock who got run over by the Dawgs! Yeah, think we’ll keep Kirby over Muschamp
Even though we have the same record, a better home record, and a better shot to win the east. Oh, and we beat Vandy
But that’s none of my business
and a loss to georgia at home you moron
The ultimate trump card is we beat y’all. And if y’all make the SECCG Bama will absolutely steamroll y’all. It will be 55-0 Bama wins. Part of me wants to see that. Go Dawgs! We won!
I’m glad we have Coach Kirby instead, also. Good luck with Muschamp!
Georgia beat us, clown. You don’t talk trash to teams that whip you. Damn, dude. Represent better!
Would the season have played out this way under Richt?
Personally pretty chill about all of this… Georgia has the worst offensive line in the SEC. If CMR was here, UGA would still have the worst offensive line in the SEC. The O-Line has been declining since the start of 2013. The backs we have had have masked that; but even Michel and Chubb cannot hide this. The team is young, red shirting the one 5Star LM they brought in last year, have a couple of other young pups that look pretty good and have been recruiting big, fast physical linemen this year and for the future. And even with all the young guys starting, they had UT beat (and this is there year)… Next year, UGA will be better… After that, I’m guessing we’ll be just fine… Yall have a good week and a nice night…
UGA fans just have to look at this as a learning and development season. Eason showed flashes and should be much better next season. Smart will get this more figured out. The OLine should eventually benefit by getting their butts beat this season. This is trial by fire, and this was a hard lesson. With just an average line, UGA would be having a good season, this season. Definite hope for next season.
Gotta remember just how close UGA is to being 7-2 right now, minus a couple of plays. A young team with a new coaching staff is learning the hard way in a transitional year, but it should pay dividends in 2017. Another loaded recruiting class coming in in February – with exactly the type of players Kirby prefers – will make this a very formidable team the next few years.
You can see already that this young D-line is quickly developing into a dominating unit. With the right O-line, the transition battle will be mostly won. A couple of young monsters are red-shirting this year, and more are coming. Football is won/lost in the trenches, and that’s what Kirby is building towards. Skill positions will never, ever be a problem at UGA. The kicking game, a glaring deficiency early on, has turned around and is looking stable for the next few years. Tightening up special teams is still the biggest concern, other than the O-line. McKenzie is a high risk/high reward returner, and this year the risk has outweighed the reward.
And Eason has definitely shown he has the right stuff, despite being battered mercilessly so far. A true freshman leading 3 game-winning type drives in a season like this is very, very promising for the future. Add in Jake Fromm next year, and the QB battle should be epic.
No, we’re not where we want to be, but I have faith in Kirby’s methods and plan. After this season, most of the upper classmen who have been quietly resistant to the changes Kirby brought to the program will be gone, and the younger kids are totally bought in. The ghost of Mark Richt will fade and it will be all Kirby’s team.
Yep, you said it….ditto!
Cluck cluck cluck…
I’m surprised SC fans even remember how to turn a computer on. They’ve obviously forgot they lost to UGA at home…and that was after mother nature even tried to bail them out!
