Georgia will be without yet another leader during the Sugar Bowl against Baylor — senior defensive captain J.R. Reed.

Reed announced Saturday that he will miss the Sugar Bowl due to an injury suffered this week during practice.

“DawgNation — It has been an honor to compete for the University of Georgia these past few years. Thank you for all the support. Although it was my full intention to play one last game with my brothers in the Sugar Bowl, unfortunately I won’t be able to compete. Due to a minor foot injury in the practice this week, that has inhibited me from playing, I have decided to rest my body and prepare for what’s to come. Nobody is more disappointed in this than me, but I know my brothers will hold it down. I want to thank my family, coaches, teammates and especially the fans for supporting me 100 percent.”

With Reed out, Georgia will now be missing seven impact players, including both offensive tackles Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Wilson. Running back Brian Herrien is also out.

Georgia and Baylor kickoff Wednesday, January 1, at 8:45 p.m. ET.
