Two visits to Athens in the last 3 weeks appears to be a turning point for Georgia to flip 5-star defensive lineman Mykel Williams from a commitment with Southern Cal, to make a pledge to his in-state Bulldogs.

Williams is from Columbus, Georgia (Hardaway), and on Wednesday morning announced that he had flipped from USC to Georgia. He committed to the Trojans on June 15 after visiting with his family, but the Georgia staff continued to recruit him. Williams is listed at 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, and is rated the No. 3 player in the state of Georgia, and the No. 5 defensive lineman in the class of 2022, according to the 247Sports Composite.

“The relationships I have with coach Dell McGee, coach Tray Scott and how coach Kirby Smart made it feel like home to me,” Williams told Dawgs247 of his decision. “Georgia was consistent in their recruitment of me. They did not back off when I committed to USC in the summer. That showed me how much they wanted me at the University of Georgia. No one changed at Georgia. There was no fake love from them.”
