Georgia is on the cusp of a special season, and there are few things standing in the way of a strong trip to Atlanta and beyond, possibly Indianapolis.

The Bulldogs have already seen a slew of issues. The secondary lost projected starters Tykee Smith and Jalen Kimber to injuries, the staff was shuffled after Scott Cochran’s departure and then return, and Will Muschamp’s addition. Then there was the quarterback challenge as the Bulldogs searched, and ultimately found, a bunch of talented receivers and tight ends.

There’s plenty still to go this season.

Here are 8 bold predictions for the rest of the season:

Adam Anderson reaches double figures in sacks

Georgia hasn’t had a player reach double figures in sacks since Jarvis Jones in 2012 with 13.5. And with the array of talent across the board for Georgia, Anderson faces a tall task because he has plenty of help, and on the so-called “no-name defense” it is difficult to stack stats. But Anderson already has 4.5 sacks with 5 regular-season games remaining, and he hasn’t had a game of 2 sacks yet, something he did twice last season.

Brock Bowers wins the Mackey Award

Scroll the preseason watch list for the Mackey Award, and Bowers was not on it, but 2 other Georgia players were: Arik Gilbert and Darnell Washington. But Bowers leads all SEC tight ends in receiving, and that includes the likes of those teammates, but also Texas A&M’s Jalen Wydermeyer and Alabama’s Jahleel Billingsley. Bowers has been the biggest first-half surprise for Georgia, but he also doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. He’ll build on what he’s already done.

Dawgs roll in Atlanta

The last time Georgia was in Atlanta, the offense could hardly get on track in the wake of the historic LSU 2019 championship team, as the Bulldogs fell 37-10. But the previous meeting in Atlanta, Georgia had plenty of offense in the 35-28 loss against Alabama when Jake Fromm passed for 3 touchdowns and 301 yards. This time, Stetson Bennett puts up another 300 yards against Alabama. Half (150) of those yards go to Bowers, while Washington picks up another 100 yards. The defense turns Bryce Young into a pretzel and bottles up the Alabama offense, to the tune of 225 passing yards, and 97 rushing yards to surprisingly coast over the Crimson Tide.

Stetson Bennett enters the Heisman conversation

What quarterback would not be a Heisman contender once he dominates as an SEC Championship winner? That’s the case for Bennett, who follows up a big game against Kentucky, with a slew of 300-yard passing games down the stretch. First up is the Cocktail Party, where Bennett takes full advantage of “Third and Grantham” and puts major pressure on Dan Mullen. Bennett has as much argument as Bijan Robinson, Desmond Ridder, Kenneth Walker III or Kenny Pickett. Take the popular TV segment, “blind résumé” and Bennett is a runaway winner. It’s similar to the discussion of if Bennett were 6-4, would he be a bona fide starter? Of course.

George Pickens makes a heroic return

The latest estimate is that Pickens could be cleared to return for the Florida game, but let’s just say it’s a conservative estimate. When he returns is not as important as what Pickens does when he’s fully back. Pickens returns for the Tennessee game on Nov. 13, and makes 3 catches, including a crucial 4th-quarter catch that would pull Larry Munson out of his chair. The key element here is that Pickens overcomes Georgia fans’ white-knuckle worry that Georgia’s star players have previously suffered multiple knee injuries on the treacherous turf at Neyland Stadium.

Georgia also wins Playoff rematch with Alabama

The cardiologists around the state of Georgia are especially busy after the Bulldogs beat the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game only to see them again in the Orange Bowl. Zamir White turns in a performance for the ages with 157 yards and 3 touchdowns as Georgia gets an early lead and somehow milks the clock down the stretch to keep Young off the field.

JT Daniels sits out the Playoff run to prepare for the NFL Draft

Seeing Bennett’s strong finish to the end of the season, Daniels decides to end his Georgia career early and focus on the NFL Draft, given his injury history. Daniels was a top-10 QB prospect before the season, but given the struggles of Spencer Rattler and Sam Howell and others, Daniels sees an opportunity to take his case to NFL front offices, and prepare for the NFL Combine.

Georgia wins the national championship, in overtime

In a battle billed as the Backup Bowl, Bennett outduels Oklahoma’s Caleb Williams in a game that is promoted all week as a future SEC game, thanks to realignment. Bennett finds Pickens behind the secondary for a busted coverage play for the clincher in overtime as he drops the confetti in Lucas Oil Stadium to send the faithful on Milledge Avenue and Broad Street in Athens into sheer pandemonium of tears, and unbridled joy into the wee hours of Jan. 11, 2022. Kirby Smart at the post-game press conference invokes both Munson and Lewis Grizzard, and gets set to sign a lifetime contract to end his career with the Bulldogs.
