Report: Georgia names starting quarterback for UNC game
Georgia is going with Greyson Lambert for its Week 1 contest against No. 22 North Carolina.
Sources told DawgNation.com’s Chip Towers that the graduate transfer has won out over freshman sensation Jacob Eason.
A graduate transfer from Virginia, Lambert led the Bulldogs to a 10-win season in 2015 (10-3), starting all games except Florida, a 27-3 loss with Faton Bauta at the helm. Lambert threw for 1,959 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 starts last season.
Eason, the top quarterback of the 2016 class, enrolled early and was a standout performer in Georgia’s spring game, going 19-of-29 for 244 yards and a touchdown. The rookie signal-caller broke his Twitter silence last night in what was seen as a possible reference to Smart’s decision. The tweet, which has since been removed, read “Trust his plan. Trust the process.”
Trust in his plan. Trust the process. 🙏🏻

The quarterback competition has been the talk of Georgia’s offseason, with everyone from Fran Tarkenton to Aaron Murray weighing in on whether the senior or the freshman should take the first snap.
But but but all the media and professionals were saying Mason was going to start. All these media preseason predictions are going to come crashing down in the next two weeks.
Hutson Mason????
Hutson Mason is going to kill it this year.
I feel like it’s a good decision, because Coach Smart knows that UNC will be bringing the house with the blitz to force them to throw. The whole QB battle was probably seeing which QB will make the right checks to pick up the blitz and Lambert won due to his experience. Once Lambert reports what he see’s on the Field I can see Eason getting in and taking over from there. I’m hoping the O-Line will be ready to make adjustments and that Coach Smart has a backup plan just in case they will have trouble moving the ball. To get the Offense moving.
LOL throw the ball because of blitz? I think you’re confused.
Here’s a hint for you scooter, when teams blitz and you have good RB’s you damned sure don’t throw.
This post is a perfect example of why I say UGA and UF have the least knowledge of the game than any other fan base in the SEC.
Have you ever played an organized sport in your life? You’re lucky youre behind a screen so your beer belly is not exposed
If you knew anything about football you would realize there are run blitzes and pass blitzes, please be worthless somewhere else
Look everybody! Another “smart” UGA LOL. Read his post again. He said blitz and bring the house. Not exactly a run blitz…
But hey, I don’t expect much from UGA fans. One of the best parts about going to Athens (besides all the easy women) is listening to the idiot UGA fans scream “why won’t they blitz” on every play lol even when UGA was using a blitz. I always ask one of your brilliant fans to explain to me what a blitz is (I act like I don’t know) and they almost always say something like “when they rush the QB and sack him duh”. My friends always have a hard time not laughing in their stupid faces.
What’s ironic is that Georgia is a better school than Tennessee. Also, you claim you get a bunch of easy woman in Athens, but you’re a filthy slob
Maybe some of our fans don’t know all aspects of the game, but over the past 10 years we have fielded a better team than Tennessee the majority of the time (easily).
Get friends, a job, and you might be able to afford surgery to fix your physical looks
Boy oh boy! You sure showed me didn’t you… you’re so smart…
Your women are easy and your fans are dumb. Just reality scooter.
And I hope you enjoyed UT being down to its lowest level in history. Those days are over. No go clean table 4.
You’re funny man
Sorry you didn’t understand what I meant, but basically UNC will bring pressure to slow down the run game and force Georgia to a passing game. That’s just my opinion on it. We’ll see how it goes on gameday. #GoDawgs
Smart move. Let the game develop before you go with Eason. If the running game is clicking the need to throw the ball is minimal. Better to Eason along slowly vs. baptism by fire.
I tend to agree with you, but UNC will definitely not respect Lambert’s ability to throw deep. Chubb may have some tough sledding when UNC has everyone loaded up in the box. But hey, hopefully Kirby knows what he’s doing. We’ll see soon enough
They will do that at their own peril. From what I understand, last year everyone had concerns with Lambert’s deep ball in practice. This year the report seems to be different. I don’t think Lambert has Eason’s talent but I think we may see Lambert throw the ball deeper if UNC tries to stack the box. Supposedly, he has been impressive this year. Regardless, I think the plan is to bring in Eason early and often.
Unc was awful stopping the run last year. Better improve significantly. Uga will be just fine running the ball.
Yeah, we’ll just to wait and see on gameday.
FRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This punk Eason has a lack of brainpower and a lot of nerve to send out a stupid tweet
Who the he11 does he think he is the next Matt Stanford ?
A UK fan talking about lack of brain power is funny. If you were smart, you’d like a different tem.
Troll
Dude … he was talking about God … gods plan .. his process .. then the praying emoji…. you got something against someone with faith or Christian ???
Of course not
I thought he felt entitled to start
Wait, didn’t you guys report last weekend that Eason was starting as was gonna play the whole game?? More quality journalism for the misfits at SDS
Actually everyone was saying that last week. This one isn’t just on SDS for once.
SDS will pass along reports from credible individuals. A credible outfit was reporting Eason was starting. If we report something, we’ll also cite who reported it (as we did w/ this one in particular). In the same article, we also made it clear that Georgia had not yet confirmed it. Thanks for reading.
uh oh…bad feeling about this
Would you rather have Eason or Lambert coming off the bench if the starter struggles? My guess is that Kirby won’t give either of them enough rope to hang the whole team. As much as we want to see Eason, this is the smart move. Rosen had just as much hype last year for UCLA and finished with a 7-6 record.
Just so long as Eason get significant playing time.
To my fellow dawg fans… I think this is a smart move. If Tennessee is starting Dobbs who had a 3:1 TD/INT ratio and 59.6% completion percentage last year, we can start Lambert who was 6:1 / 63.3%. It’s not the end of the world.
I’m hoping the South Carolina game Lambert shows up… not the rest of the season Lambert…
So many butt chuggers on here. Say Go Vols! when you’re upside down with a funnel up your corn hole
That’s a stretch. Apples to oranges. Dobbs provides additional skill sets that Lambert never could. Dobbs accounted for just under 3000 yards of total offense and 27 touchdowns last year. Far more productive.
bad math, just over 3000 yards of total offense.
LoL… nice one… go Dawgs!!
