Georgia entered Saturday’s road game against Kentucky as a massive favorite in the SEC opener for the Bulldogs. However, Kirby Smart’s team has not lived up to that role through the first 30 minutes of action.

In fact, the Bulldogs have just 3 points at the half, and they can thank their defense for that gift. Georgia was set up at Kentucky’s 23-yard line after a strip sack of UK quarterback Brock Vandagriff, but Georgia picked up just 7 yards before kicking a field goal.

At the break, Georgia has just 65 yards of offense and is averaging 3 yards per carry on the ground. It is the lowest offensive output in the first half of a game for the Bulldogs since 2009 vs. LSU.

Carson Beck has also struggled mightily and is just 5-for-11 for 32 yards. Georgia has 3 total first downs in the first 30 minutes of the game and is 1-for-6 on 3rd downs. By comparison, Kentucky has picked up 11 first downs and is 6-for-9 on 3rd downs.

The Bulldogs have more punts than first downs (4 punts in the first half), and their longest drive of the first half went for 26 yards before punting away. Even if Georgia rallies to win, this is the kind of performance that would doom the Bulldogs in matchups against Alabama and Texas down the road.

Kentucky would tack on a late field goal to keep the score just 6-3 at the break but it’s far from a comfortable position for Georgia. Here’s how social media reacted to the weird and sloppy half of offense from the Bulldogs:
