In Kirby Smart’s first two recruiting classes at Georgia, the Bulldogs have signed the No. 1 and No. 3 pro-style quarterbacks on the 247Sports Composite in Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm. While that seem to indicate that UGA is committed to a pro-style offense for at least the duration of Fromm’s career in Athens, one recruit says that he’s been told by Dawgs coaches that changes are coming to the offense.

Heard County (Franklin, Ga.) QB Emory Jones is committed to Ohio State, but UGA doesn’t want to let him leave the Peach State, and they’re making a serious pitch.

“They’re changing their offense to me,” Jones told Jake Reuse of UGASports.com. “It’d be more of a no huddle, and that’s what I like. They said they see how I run it in high school system, and they believe I could be successful playing at UGA.”

Smart and Georgia offensive coordinator Jim Chaney would be far from the first SEC coaches to incorporate no huddle and running quarterback elements into a more traditional pro-style offense. Smart knows all about this from his tenure in Alabama coaching alongside Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin. It is worth noting, however, that Jones’ quote by itself does not make it clear whether the changes are dependent on his signing with the Dawgs or if we can expect to see the system change with Eason or Fromm at quarterback.

Willing to change scheme to make use of a prospect’s talent is quite a pitch, but there’s one thing Smart can’t change, and that is UGA’s location.

“My mom and dad love Ohio State,” Jones said. “They love the way they make me feel at home. I just feel like I’ll have more success playing at Ohio State, and I really kinda wanna get out of Georgia.”

Georgia fans can judge whether Jones’ commitment would be worth a change in scheme after watching his highlights below:
