Georgia practice reports shed more light on injuries to Lawrence Cager, Brian Herrien
Georgia WR Lawrence Cager missed his second straight practice on Tuesday as he battles rib and shoulder injuries, according to multiple reports as the Bulldogs dealt with a host of injuries across the roster.
Cager, who has had at least one injury for a couple of weeks, missed the end of the South Carolina game, and has missed both days of practice this week. Travon Walker and Nate McBride were also missing, according to Seth Emerson of The Athletic. Meanwhile RB Brian Herrien, who sat out the game on Saturday with back spasms, has been back on the field both days this week.
The offensive line, which gave up 3 sacks against the Gamecocks, is shuffling again because of injury. Coach Kirby Smart reported on Monday that Justin Shaffer would be out for this week’s game against Kentucky. Without Shaffer, Georgia practiced with Cade Mays at left guard and Ben Cleveland at right guard.
In the secondary, Tyson Campbell was back practicing as he tries to return from a turf toe injury, the Red and Black reported.
The Bulldogs will play UK at 6 p.m. on Saturday in a game to be televised by ESPN. Georgia is a 25-point favorite in the game.
Where is all our great depth? No injury excuses for Kirby from now on.
Funny remembering you dawgs yipping about all your great recruiting….stars don’t mean anything unless you can develop them.
Injuries are taking its toll. For all the talented depth, there seems to be a noticeable drop off when starters can’t play.
I think overall the issues about “depth” are a little overplayed here. Fromm got pressured plenty and sacked 3 times, yes but he also dropped back a season high amount of times last week. The line held up pretty well considering UGA was playing press man without making any adjustments to make quick throws or screens. Any time you try to draw up an intermediate or deep pass against press man, it’s going to take 4 seconds for that route to develop unless your WR just smokes the DB off the line, and that’s hard to do against a 6’4 corner with good technique and hands.
I think the line held up well, White ran well when given chances, but the playcalling did not put the offense in favorable position to counter what SCar was doing.
Good job on ignoring trolls. Toss sweep to White, Swift, Herrien with pulling lineman would be nice. I guess our coaching staff insists on running into stacked box.
