Georgia athletic department responds to Dan Patrick's report of potential NCAA investigation
Dan Patrick got the attention of the college football world Friday morning when he shared that Tennessee will face a “serious investigation” and noted that Georgia could be up next for an NCAA investigation. Patrick that he had heard the Bulldogs “got sloppy in recruiting.”
If the NCAA is coming to investigate UGA, it’s news to the program’s athletic department. Mike Griffith of DawgNation shared a response from the UGA administration to Patrick’s report:
“While we do not comment on alleged NCAA investigations at other institutions, we have no information to suggest there is any validity to the reports relating to our football program.”
Reports suggest that the Tennessee investigation involves the recruitment of Amarius Mims, a 5-star class of 2021 offensive lineman who committed to Georgia over UT and Alabama and ultimately signed with Kirby Smart’s program during the December Early Signing Period.
While Patrick is presumably unlikely to share just a random rumor, it appears UGA isn’t worried about any NCAA trouble at the moment.
Dan says that he’s heard from source that Tennessee football will face a serious investigation. He also said that Georgia could be next. “I was told Georgia got sloppy in recruiting.” @dpshow

Uh oh!
If they did something wrong they can be punished. If not, then no uh oh
I’d be surprised if it is anything major.
The Dogs just came out and admitted they had gotten a little sloppy on some recruiting activity in early 2020. It sounded like very minor violations. I think that’s what Patrick may have been referring to. I used to like Dan. I met him one time back in the 1987 or 88 before he was big. He was nice. But don’t throw my Dawgs under the bus.
Unless they’re doing like lsu and letting them know hopeful that they wont investigate fuller. I hope UGA isn’t going to get into any trouble to where there are penalty’s or sanctions brought against them.
It is minor…until you start licking like a dog…
So Dan has a info on the NCAA office that a subject of an investigation doesn’t? If you are a Georgia hater, I wouldnt get too excited. I still have my doubts about how much trouble Tennessee has. Look, LSU Coach Wade was recorded complaining about how much money had to be paid to a recruit. And all we heard was crickets.
Good point.
Right. He’s still at LSU coaching. This is probably Patrick trying to create some buzz for his show? We’ll see soon enough.
Some dog rear end sniff action…LOL
dog crap smells…
This suggestion of potentially big issues seems super out of character for Georgia. Nothing is impossible. But, I’m comfortable that nothing is there; at most some coach losing track of when/how/what way he does his normal, otherwise legal recruiting activities.
When I first read that, I just chuckled. Kirby allowing any degree of sloppiness with anything, especially recruiting, just doesn’t parse. The guy pays incredible attention to detail, and has his eyes on everything in the program. Sure, a coach can slip up amidst all sky-high book of NCAA rules, but it’s caught and corrected PDQ. See Georgia’s self-reporting of minor violations since Kirby came on board in 2016. It’s the schools that don’t self-report violations that you need to watch, cuz they happen at every school.
UGA doesn’t allow boosters the type of influence you see at places like Auburn and UT, and it’s usually the boosters or a rogue HC that get a program in any type of significant NCAA trouble. And the big NCAA cases the last few decades seem to mostly involve on-campus issues (sexual assault, eligibility cheating, general lack of institutional control). You have to be a really obvious recruiting renegade to land in hot water with the NCAA (Freeze) – and sometimes not even then (Wade).
I’m not a big Greg McGarity fan, but one thing is certain about him – he bends over backwards to play by the rules.
Kirby plays by the rules Your belief that kirby is a great guy is comical. Dude is about as classy and will use any advantage he can get with his slimey hands. Kid took BAMA’s recruiting board and used it against us.
Some kind of class for a place and a Coach Saban who single handedly got you where you are today. Kirby is slime. Don’t be naive.
One of the reasons I love kicking his a$$ every year and sending him packing despite all that talent he has in his own state w no other state school.
RT651. So what does your description of Kirby say about Saban?
You know the man who had him as his lead recruiter for 10 years? Wouldn’t that be a direct reflection of Nick Saban?
But I guess you think Saban runs a squeaky clean program, and henever uses any advantage he can get with his slimey hands.
You need to realize that SEC recruiting is a big boy’s sport, and every coach is using every advantage they can.
Kirby just happens to be one of the very best at doing it…
