Georgia recruiting staffer Tory Bowles, a survivor of the tragic crash in January that caused the deaths of Georgia football player Devin Willock and staffer Chandler LeCroy, was fired by the university Friday, August 4.

Bowles’ firing comes less than a month after she filed a lawsuit against the university partially blaming the athletic association for negligently entrusting the vehicle to LeCroy, who had a history of speeding offenses, according to author Reeves Jackson of 11Alive.

According to Bowles’ law firm, the university fired her knowing that she is unable to work due to “significant and permanent injuries.”

Perhaps most important, Bowles’ lawyers claim that UGA tried to control information regarding the crash which was located on Bowles’ cell phone while she was at the hospital. It was claimed that Georgia representatives then informed her family that she needed to get a new cell phone and return the old one to UGA.

Here’s a statement from Bowles’ lawyers on the suit:

“Tory, like all other perceived liabilities to the football program, became expendable to UGA, and despite her loyalty and meager salary, has been steamrolled. The Association’s public statement issued in response to Tory’s lawsuit, that it ‘patiently supported Ms. Bowles during her long and difficult recovery,’ was obviously self-serving and disingenuous.”

A statement from the UGA Athletic Association to 11Alive simply claims Bowles was fired after refusing to cooperate with the crash investigation.

“We were ultimately left with no choice but to terminate her employment. We wish Ms. Bowles well in her recovery, and we will offer no further comment on this matter,” the statement said.
