Georgia is dealing with another case of reckless driving and speeding.

Jarvis Jones, a former standout pass rusher and currently the Player Connection Coordinator, was arrested by Athens Clarke-County Police and booked in jail at 11:26 p.m. on Friday. He was charged with speeding – maximum limits and reckless driving. He posted bond that night.

This is the latest case of what has been a growing problem for Georgia. Georgia’s had 14 players cited or arrested for similar traffic incidents since Jan. 15 when a fatal crash claimed the lives of 2 members of the program, offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy. Jones’ arrest is the first for a coach or administrator.

At Monday’s press conference, Kirby Smart said, “There’ll be internal discipline. It’s a personnel matter, and I can’t really comment any more on it.”

Jones, who was recently among Georgia’s latest Circle of Honor class, owns the school record for sacks in a season (14.5) and tackles for loss (24.5), both set in 2012. Jones ranks 3rd in program history with 28 sacks and 3rd in tackles for loss with 44.

Jones was selected 17th overall by Pittsburgh in the 2013 NFL Draft. He played 4 seasons for the Steelers before his career was cut short because of injury. In 2019, Jones returned to Georgia to finish his degree and joined the staff as a student assistant coach, and later moved into his current role as Player Connection Coordinator.
