The University of Georgia officially named a starting quarterback for 2015.

UVA transfer Greyson Lambert is named the starter for Georgia’s first game against Louisiana-Monroe.

“There may be other or others who get in the game. But right now the thing that I know is that he’ll start the game,” Richt said during his Monday press conference, via the AJC. “Very, very close competition. Still being contested in my mind. But at this point, we felt it would be wise to name a starter and get him ready to play in this ballgame. … We’ll start playing ball that way and see how it goes.”

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound Jesup, Ga., native is handed the keys to Mark Richt’s and Brian Schottenheimer’s offense, and Lambert has perhaps the SEC’s most talented backfield behind him. He threw for 1,632 yards, 10 touchdowns and 11 INTs for Virginia in 2014.

Lambert beat out Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta for the starting job during fall camp.
