The 2016 season was a rough one for Georgia wide receivers not named Isaiah McKenzie.

One of the players who struggled the most was then-sophomore WR Michael Chigbu, who only appeared in five games last year.

Chigbu made nine catches for 88 yards, but the catches he didn’t make were the ones that stuck in his mind. Now, as the 2017 season approaches, the junior told Macon.com that he needs to take a major step forward this fall:

“Personally, I got to do better,” Chigbu said. “I came this year to do better.”

Chigbu added that he hopes to enter 2017 with a fresh start. He said he’ll keep working to make sure the drops don’t plague him again this year:

“I try not to think about it,” Chigbu said of the drops he recorded last season. “You have to move on. If you keep looking back on it, it’s just going to haunt you. One thing that pushes out regret or things that happen in the past is to work hard. When you work hard, you feel happy.”

The Bulldogs kick off the 2017 season on Saturday, Sept. 2, against Appalachian State. Chigbu needs a good start to boost his confidence for the rest of the season.
