Greg McElroy provided his take on whether or not Georgia will be able to reclaim its spot atop college football during the regular season. The Bulldogs were ranked No. 2 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, with Ohio State sliding into the No. 1 spot despite UGA being ranked atop the AP Poll for the entirety of this season.

McElroy points to Georgia’s upcoming stretch as a major reason for why the Bulldogs can make it back to the No. 1 spot.

“Georgia has a gauntlet coming up,” McElroy said. “Missouri is real, and then you have Ole Miss and then you make the trip up to Tennessee.”

McElroy likened the Dawgs’ upcoming slate of games to what Notre Dame faced when it played Ohio State, Duke and Louisville all in a row. He said that the Irish ran out of gas in that game against UL and wonders if the same thing may happen to Georgia.

“If they can get through this stretch of games unscathed, then I’ll be shocked if they’re not No. 1 in the rankings by the time they tee it up against Georgia Tech,” McElroy said.

Georgia is set to host No. 12 Missouri this Saturday at 3:30 EST on CBS in a game that will carry plenty of SEC East implications.
