Gunner Stockton entered the SEC Championship Game in place of the injured Carson Beck to start the second half and promptly led a Georgia touchdown drive, as the Bulldogs took a 10-6 lead over Texas 4-and-a-half minutes into the third quarter.
The Bulldogs’ offense was stagnant in the first half, managing just 54 yards of total offense. They opened the third quarter on a 10-play, 75-yard drive, ending with a 10-yard Trevor Etienne scoring carry, his 8th touchdown of the season.

Stockton was 3-for-3 for 36 yards on the drive and also took 2 carries for 12 yards. The former 4-star recruit is on the field for just the fourth time this season. His last outing was against UMass on Nov. 23, where he was 3-of-4 for 45 yards.
But this is a much bigger stage, and with Beck sidelined, Stockton will be looked upon to lead the Dawgs to a third SEC Championship triumph under Kirby Smart.
That said, there’s sure to be concern regarding the status of Beck. We’ll see what Smart says after the game regarding the health of his starting quarterback and the immediate prognosis of the senior with the College Foootball Playoff just weeks away. Georgia would likely seal a first-round bye with a win over Texas.
