Texas kicker Jared Zirkel commits to Georgia after recently winning kicking competition in Athens
Georgia has landed its kicker for the 2020 recruiting cycle as Texas native Jared Zirkel just announced his commitment to Kirby Smart’s program.
Zirkel was recently in Athens to participate in Georgia’s 2019 kicking competition. Despite a field of 150 competitors, Zirkel came away as the champion of the event.
That result had to have impressed the Georgia coaching staff and the feeling was clearly mutual as the Tivy High School product announced his commitment to the Bulldogs on Thursday.
Below is footage from Zirkel’s winning appearance at Georgia’s recent kicking competition:
Not only is Georgia getting an accurate kicker but one that can hit from range, too. Check out this video of Zirkel making a 70-yard field goal:

Welcome Jared!!
I hope “The Specs” finds a home in the NFL.
Go Dawgs!!
I am glad they had 1980 in the picture above.
That was a good year even though none of us were alive to see it.
I was a young Army 1st Lieutenant at Ft Bliss, Texas, just back from 3 years in West Germany. I remember it very well. When are you going to stop trying to talk about we and us?
I remember it well. And you’re slipping, trutroll — you’re not the first one to post.
Extrapolating our average years per championship, we see that UGARMYRet will not see another championship in his lifetime.
I wonder how that feels.
Go Dawgs!!!
Go Dawgs! Kevin Butler would be proud!
Welcome to the Bulldawg Nation!!!!
Great addition. Most underrated position on the field.
The state of Texas has been very good to UGA, at least back to the days of Hampton and Hogue. Hopefully we pull a couple more from the Lonestar state for 2020.
Yes, if we could reel in Zachary Evans from TX, it would be a great addition to the backfield but I have a feeling he is going to either Bama or LSU. I feel pretty good about getting Kendall Milton, though. I would be happy with either one of these 2 5-star RB’s.
the girl in that photo should be asking to be paid for using her likeness. She is the photo of a lot of uga articles.
Welcome aboard young man. The Dawg Nation is delighted to call you one of our own. See you in Athens!
Nice pickup for you guys. It’s hard to believe that Rodrigo has only been there for three years so far. He seems like an 11th year senior to me.
I always felt that way about Stephen Garcia. Seems like he was Spurrier’s QB for Spurrier’s entire tenure at USC.
