Keon Coleman blames Georgia for FSU's CFP snub, Orange Bowl debacle

Keon Coleman blames Georgia for Florida State’s disastrous close to the 2023 season.

Coleman shared his thoughts on the matter with Robert Griffin III during an appearance on his podcast on this week.

Coleman said Georgia’s loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game is what caused the Noles to miss the College Football Playoff despite their 13-0 record. And as a result of missing the CFP, FSU ended up losing most of its starters to opt-outs before getting blasted by UGA in the Orange Bowl.

“If you would have won [against Alabama], you would have found out who was better between Florida State and Georgia,” Coleman said. “You would have played us in the ‘matter bowl.’ In a bowl that mattered. We’re not going to play y’all in a bowl that don’t matter. That’s a waste of time.

“If y’all would have won [against Alabama] and did what y’all were supposed to do, y’all would have would have had to see us. We would have been doing that [Tomahawk Chop] the whole time. All of that barking, we would have put a spear straight through you. Ain’t no barking, that’s dead. You would have found out, but the world may never know because Georgia decided to lose [to Alabama]. We should question their toughness to Bama. How do y’all keep choking?”

It seems that Coleman is suggesting FSU would have made the Playoff along with Georgia, Michigan and Washington had the Bulldogs won the SEC title game. In this scenario, Texas’ résumé is considerably weaker without a win over SEC-champion Alabama from earlier in the season.

It’s unclear how much veracity there is to that claim. At the time, College Football Playoff selection committee chair Boo Corrigan said that Jordan Travis’ season-ending injury was the reason why the Noles were left out of the top-4.

Regardless, Florida State ultimately became the first (and only) undefeated power-5 champion to be excluded from the College Football Playoff. The vast majority of FSU’s starters decided to opt-out of the Orange Bowl, and UGA defeated the Noles 63-3.

Coleman was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the 33rd overall pick in the NFL Draft last month.

  • “You would have played us in the ‘matter bowl.’ In a bowl that mattered. We’re not going to play y’all in a bowl that don’t matter. That’s a waste of time”

That comment just summed up the garbage of the FSU program! Georgia players did not opt out , no excuse what so ever!

Georgia was the far superior team to FS who no matter what players played in the game. This guy and all of his little tomahawk buddies were scared to play UGA as why that sat out!

I am no DAWGS fan but to hear this again just shows the class of person that comes from Tallahassee!

    • Did the podcast provide him with a box of tissues? Georgia would have easily won another NC without the mental block we have playing Bama. And another news flash: Most Georgia fans love the tomahawk chop and do it regularly at Braves’ games. Too bad the committee had the final say on what mattered and it was not FSU.

      • All the ‘Nole fans seem to have forgotten they “their team” lost an All ACC QB and that’s the real reason they were snubbed. Accept the blame & move on ‘Noles.

  • Love the pathetic excuses from FSU players. Weak. You got no team culture – End of story!

  • All that biitching, whining, moaning and explaining …

    GO DAWGS

  • We’re not going to play y’all in a bowl that don’t matter. That’s a waste of time.”

That’s 100% a loser mentally and evidence of a weak culture. Anytime you step on the field, you should play, at a minimum, for pride in yourself and your team. Claiming to roll over and play dead because you think the game doesn’t matter screams of being selfish and spineless. And then to state, after chalking up the historic beatdown to apathy, that FSU would have won if the game mattered is 100% delusional.

  • Such a pathetic moron.

Would he like a waaahhburger to go with his french cries?

  • All it would have changed is instead of using opt outs as an excuse they would have used Jordan Travis’ leg as an excuse. FSU’s starters barely squeaked by the d@mn Gators in their prior game. I don’t think they beat Georgia at 100 percent, but they weren’t 100 percent prior to the opt outs either.

  • I was one of the first ones to defend FSU’s exclusion, even over my own team… the committee abandoned the unspoken rules they set up, and that’s not fair. But at some point, you have to quit with the complaining and move on. Norvell has not done a good job with the psyche of this team after being snubbed, and it will come back to bite them. Time to move on.

    • Any good coach worth his salt would use the snubbing as motivation for upcoming seasons as a “prove it” or “us against everyone” mentality. Norvell is doing none of the like but letting his players whine. The more they do so, the more people will begin to think it trickles down from HIM.

  • Taking responsibility is not their strong suit….

  • “If you would have won [against Alabama]…”

Clearly Keon isn’t a student of the game as he should know that UGA/Kirby rarely ever beats Bama, especially in the SECCG.

  • Bottom line is FSU players took easy way out and tucked their tails. Can’t risk that 2nd round selection right Keon. Ha! How many of the guys that sat out were 1st round maybe 1? Didn’t want to get their a@$ beat and talk about their non CFP season. How bout showing up and trying to go undefeated for your school fellas. Don’t blame my Dawgs for the ACC’s joke status. GO DAWGS!!

  • One team is eager to play, the other team is full of quitters. Completely different culture. This is what separates winners from losers. You let down your fellow players, your school and your fans. FSU is not championship worthy!

  • He’s looking real bad here. Sometimes, it’s best to say nothing.

  • Keon seems to lack the ability to accurately evaluate his team’s performance against Florida and Louisville, the last two opponents faced before the bowl game opt-outs.

If the opt-outs had played, Georgia might have only scored 50, not 63. FSU’s offensive production wouldn’t have been any different.

Another clown from the clown school.

  • Go listen to the interview on Brandon Adam’s Dawg Nation Daily

Keon Coleman literally makes Uncle Joe sound intelligent and coherent; if the guy was awarded a degree somebody needs to go to jail.

  • Just that UGA beat bammer in that silly little national title game for that silly little national
Championship. Keep clutching at straws standard. That’s all you will have left.

    • I recall Bama beating the puppies for a Natty as well. Something about 2nd and 26 but I’m not sure. Oh yeah, and the puppies are something like 1-7 against Bama in the last 15 years as well as just lost an SECCG to Bama. It’s ok UGAplayswithDeez, you can admit that being Bama’s beotch is just your calling, we all know it already.

      • And mark Richt beat bammer and nick in ‘07 three times in a row. But that’s something you Bammers refuse to admit. Your selective memory equates to you boys room temperature IQ.

        • “Keep clutching at straws standard. That’s all you will have left.”

Who’s clutching? There’s no way you’re that dumb to post that and then reference 2007 in your first response. Lmao, I can’t make this up this is priceless! And then you reference someone else’s IQ! UGAplayswithDeez, I think you need to give trolling a rest because you’re just like your momma, YOU SUCK!

    • If you could read, I said “very rarely” does UGA/Kirby beats Bama. That was the rare W Kirby got. I’m impressed he even accomplished that. Congrats on that ONE win in the last 15 years! Seems like you’re the one clutching at straws.

      • I wish Nick was young enough to stick around to see how Kirby would do long term against him. And at the quite possible outlook of tough losses, the win(s) against the very best coach make it all the more triumphant. See Standard, Nick has class and Kirby has class. You are akin to the Mike Dubose and stripper boy coach Mike Riley. You are a poor little revengeful sort that just has to aim low with every comment you make. UGA stays in your head as indicated by every single time without fail you HAVE to respond about anything UGA with the predictable blah blah blah remember when bammer did this against UGA. However, you fail to include the success UGA had before Nick and yes the one big win against Nick. But what’s more important is the present and beyond. And I’ll certainly take Kirby and the brand and money of UGA over the current amd ongoing situation at Bama. We will see. You stay low though. You wouldn’t know anything different.

        • Mike Riley??? Please show where he was the Head Coach at Bama! Heck, show us where he coached at Bama at all! UGAplayswithDEEZ, I take back my other response, apparently you are that dumb!

  • Alabama did beat Georgia fair and square, which we grew to expect under Saban. Very unfortunate that FSU lost all of their players. That’s why they play the games

  • He’s just a kid. I wouldn’t give this two thoughts.

  • Didn’t this clown opt out?
Doesn’t matter if they hadn’t opted out, the Dawgs would’ve still beat the brakes off em… maybe not by 60 but by 28 or so. And, IF they’d made the playoffs, any of those four would’ve curb stomped.
Hey, let’s fix this, FSU come on down to the ACC with your tigger brothers and see how hard it can be to get to the playoff in a conf with more than two good teams.

  • . . . who is this Coleman guy? why is there an article about him. Must not be a whole lot of topics to write about
