The bread and butter for Georgia this season appears to be a hard-nosed defense, and a solid running game. Two of the key pieces of that will be Jordan Davis and Zamir White.

Coach Kirby Smart discussed how each player contributed to the win over Clemson on Saturday, starting with White.

“Toughness, hard-nosed, physical runs. He doesn’t shy away from contact,” Smart said on the SEC coaches media teleconference on Wednesday. “He has a toughness. He cares about his teammates, selfless. That’s the mantra of our team, but also our running back room. We’ve got talented guys in there. … You’re not going to end up with a guy getting 20 carries all the time, but it’s still demoralizing for other teams to have to deal with fresh running backs all the time.”

Similarly, Davis is a key cog on the defensive line, and helps set the tone for the rest of the defense.

“Jordan has been tremendous. He’s worked really hard. As he continues to work to keep his weight down, he’s stayed humble,” Smart said.  “… Obviously, he’s a space eater, tough against the run, tough to move. … It just means a lot to him to go back (home to Charlotte) and that’s a big reason he was excited to come back (for his senior season).”
