Kirby Smart evaluates Carson Beck's performance vs. Ole Miss: 'I'm not here to be critical of him'
Kirby Smart reflected on the performance of Carson Beck following Georgia’s 28-10 loss to Ole Miss. Beck was 20-of-31 for 186 yards, failing to throw a touchdown but recording an interception.
“I thought Carson played good, guys … I mean, some of those penalties aren’t on him. Some are,” Smart told reporters in his post-match press conference. “He had a couple snafus too where maybe he didn’t motion a guy or didn’t shift somebody in as part of the adjustment and he knows that. We put a lot on him.”
Despite Beck playing in front of a hostile environment at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, Smart noted his quarterback’s poise.
“He’s playing on the road with crowd noise. But man, he stands in that pocket and converted some third downs and made some really nice plays,” he said. “I thought he threw the ball away a couple times tonight and was really good. I’m not here to be critical of him.”
The loss snapped the Bulldogs’ 4-game winning streak. With 3 games left, their next game against Tennessee is a must-win if they are to make the College Football Playoff and keep alive their chances at a third national championship in four seasons.
