Kirby Smart issued an injury update for a pair of key Georgia players on Tuesday.

Smart said that both Smael Mondon Jr. and Branson Robinson, who missed UGA’s spring game due to foot injuries, are still in the recovery process and are not expected to be full-go for the start of fall camp.

Smart said both players suffered “significant” injuries in the spring.

“We’re going to through a slower ramp-up process with both of them. They’ve both been dealing with significant injuries,” Smart told reporters at SEC Media Days, via The Athletic. “We’re hopeful to get them back, but I don’t know when that will be in terms of full speed.”

Mondon also missed 2 games due to injury last season, but he still managed to lead the Bulldogs in tackles with 76. He also recorded 8 tackles for loss, 1 sack and 1 interception.

Robinson was UGA’s fouth-leading rusher last season with 330 yards and 3 touchdowns on 68 carries. He also scored 2 touchdowns in last year’s National Championship Game victory over TCU.

The good news for the Bulldogs is that they have depth to withstand these injuries. Former 5-star linebacker Xavian Sorely is a candidate to step in for Mondon’s role. At running back, projected starter Kendall Milton is “full go,” per Smart. He missed time during the spring due to injury.

Georgia will open the 2023 season against Tennessee-Martin on Sept. 2.
