Kirby Smart shared on Tuesday that assistant coach Scott Cochran has returned to the team, and is in an off-field role.

Cochran, previously the special teams coordinator, took a leave of absence from the program for health reasons earlier this season, and was replaced by Will Muschamp on the on-field staff. Muschamp remains in his on-field role.

Smart about 3 weeks ago last updated the media about Cochran’s situation, and added that, “we’re worried about his family and safety and we’re not really concerned about that.” At that point, Cochran was in town, Smart said, and with the program temporarily.

Cochran is in his second season at Georgia after he served 13 years as head strength and conditioning coach at Alabama. The move to Georgia was the first on-field role in his career.
