Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs will start the 2022 season against a familiar face — former DC Dan Lanning.

Lanning is now the head coach at Oregon, and his Ducks will head to Atlanta for a Week 1 showdown against his old squad.

At SEC Media Days recently, Smart said he and his new defense will have to switch some things up when facing Lanning (via On3 Sports):

“Well, I think we have to do some different things. [Lanning will] be thinking the same way. We’re not going to go out there and just do the exact same thing,” Smart said. “You’ve got to put your players in a chance to be successful. We’ve got to figure out who those players are. I think we know at some of the skill positions, but maybe defensively are we stronger on the perimeter.

“Are we stronger inside? Where are we stout at and where’s our best [positions]? That’s what we’ve got to utilize.”

Will Georgia find a way to beat its former coordinator? Or, will the Ducks get the upper hand and pull off a major upset? We’ll find out in a few short weeks as Week 1 of the 2022 college football season draws ever closer.
