Kirby Smart dialed in to the SEC’s weekly teleconference Wednesday morning to discuss, among other things, Carson Beck’s first start at Georgia.

Beck finished Saturday’s game having thrown for 294 yards and 1 touchdown, completing 21 of his 31 passing attempts. He also added a rushing touchdown.

It was no Heisman caliber performance, but it was a good starting point. Here’s what Smart had to say about his outing:

“Yes, poise, confidence in the pocket. Understanding the checks systems, where to go with the ball. When to get us out of a play, when to just get rid of it. I thought he did a really nice job with that. I thought he had a couple passes he missed that I think he would like to have back, but outside of that, he managed and handled the game well.”

Georgia faces off against Ball State this Saturday at Noon on SEC Network.
