On Tuesday of Notre Dame week, injuries were a hot topic at Kirby Smart’s press conference.
Sophomore CB Tyson Campbell left the Arkansas State game in the second quarter and did not return. Reporters asked Smart for the latest on Campbell and his foot injury.
“He’s pushing through,” Smart said of Campbell. “He was out there today, trying to work and help us out. But he’s mentally getting prepared and he’s not able to take a lot of reps.”
Smart had more positive updates on sophomore RT Isaiah Wilson and senior WR Tyler Simmons. The fourth-year head coach liked what he saw from Wilson in Monday’s practice.
“I didn’t get to see him today,” Smart said of Wilson. “He practiced yesterday. I thought he did well. I didn’t notice him today because I was focused on the defense. I’ll see when I go in there how he held up.”
Smart also told reports that Simmons has not experienced any setbacks and that he’s handling the punt-return duty in practice this week.
