Kirby Smart speaks about Carson Beck's first road start
Georgia will get its first road test on Saturday as it travels to Auburn, and with that comes the first road start for quarterback Carson Beck.
Beck has been solid for the most part in his first few games, but hasn’t seen much competition and has not seen a road environment yet. Head coach Kirby Smart believes Beck has performed well so far, but playing against Auburn on the road will be another test.
“That’s something that we’re going to find out. I don’t think you know,” Smart said in a press conference Monday. “I think he’s been through some ups and downs. He’s certainly been against good defenses like Auburn has. He goes against our guys. ”
So far this season, Beck has recorded 1,184 yards, 6 touchdowns and an interception. He’s been good at home, but now he has a chance to prove that he can also do it on the road.
“It’s different when it’s live,” Smart said. So you gotta find out how he responds to that, and I’m very confident in Carson’s ability to communicate, to understand things. He’s been in our system. You know, you only get good at these situational football things by playing football for a long time. And he’s been with us for a while doing it. This is his first chance to do it on the road.”
The Bulldogs and Tigers will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
