Kirby Smart updates running back injuries, outlook at the position
The defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs get their quest for a 3-peat started on Saturday as they host Tennessee Martin at 6 p.m.
However, before they get that game going, there are still question marks at the running back position.
Last week, the Bulldogs announced that Branson Robinson would miss the entire season after he ruptured his patella tendon on a non-contact play.
Coach Kirby Smart provided an update on the running back position as game week preparation began.
“We’re looking at everybody at running back, we’re trying to find the best way possible to get the ball in the hands of the playmakers,” Smart said Monday. “Really got a bunch of guys who’ve repped and done some good things there.”
Smart said Daijun Edwards was dealing with an MCL injury, and after Edwards had a similar injury last year, he’s “actually doing great.”
“I think he’s going to be able to practice and do everything today,” Smart said. “So we feel good about Daijun’s status, it happened on the second scrimmage, so I don’t know what that date was, but would’ve been I guess a week ago Saturday and he’s bounced back pretty good from that, so he looks good.”
Kendall Milton has dealt with a hamstring for most of fall camp, and Smart said Milton feels 80% or 90% and Smart’s hopeful to get him back on Monday to practice.
“The volume they do you have to be careful of, because they haven’t been in the heat as much as the other guys in the last week, but we feel good about both those guys,” Smart said. “I feel good about Andrew Paul, Rod Robinson’s had a great camp, Cash’s had a great camp. Really got a bunch of guys who’ve repped and done some good things there.”
