This is likely the best Florida team, certainly offense, Kirby Smart has faced since he’s been the head coach at Georgia. How is it different?

“I don’t know if it’s different,” Smart said on the SEC coaches media teleconference. “It’s based on where (Dan Mullen’s) strengths are, where our strengths are… you try to play to your strengths and not his but that varies each year… different this year.”

Those strengths include TE Kyle Pitts and all-purpose speedster Kadarius Toney.

“You have to know where he’s at, he was talented last year… Dan uses him in the run and the pass, he is elite, no question about that,” Smart said of Pitts. “You can’t determine where he will be at, they determine that… it depends on where he is. if we have a chance to match up against him, we will do that but we can’t determine that.”

Toney is much improved, according to Smart.

“Much more, he was always good,” Smart said. “Dan always used him but he always had more weapons around him… now, it’s like he’s a more polished receiver on top of the utility stuff… extreme quickness, he plays powerful, he’s physical in what he does, he’s a good receiver.”

Smart was asked about transfer LB Brenton Cox, who started his career at Georgia, and is now at Florida.

“Brenton is playing really well, explosive pass rusher… he plays hard, hard to block, they put him in good position to make plays… he’s playing really well… he will create issues for us,” Smart said, and added it’s not aggravating to face him because it’s a decision each kid has to make.

Georgia is dealing with several injuries and Smart updated some of them.

For WR George Pickens’ “upper extremity” injury, Smart said it’s a pain tolerance issue, but the coach is hopeful he can play.

“We didn’t get to do much yesterday so he did what he did the week before… hopefully he’s able to play,” Smart said. “We need him to be at his best for us to be where we need to be offensively.”

Smart added that star safety Richard LeCounte was released from the hospital.

About defensive lineman Jordan Davis’ injury status, Smart said he’s still day to day, and the coach is hopeful he can go. Davis did not practice yesterday, but Smart is hopeful he can play a role in the game.
