One of the accompanying storylines for No. 2 Georgia’s game with 18th-ranked Auburn this weekend will be Tigers wide receiver Demetris Robertson.

The 6-foot, 185-pounder transferred to Auburn from Georgia and has been a key player for the Tigers, recording 17 receptions for 172 yards and 2 TDs so far this season.

During his weekly press conference Monday, Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart was asked about Robertson and his decision to leave Athens.

Smart made it perfectly clear that the Savannah, Georgia, native left on good terms and that he has been missed.

“No real story. He wanted an opportunity to get more reps, he wanted an opportunity to play more and felt like the opportunity was probably better there than it was here,” Smart said. “We didn’t want to see D-Rob go. I’ve always thought a lot of D-Rob and thought he’s gotten better and better, and the situation we’re in now was because some guys started to leave, that’s why we’re so thin, along with injuries.

“But I wish D-Rob nothing but the best, great young man, respect him a lot and he’s been able to make a lot of good plays for them, a lot of big plays. Mike (Bobo) does a great job of using the skillset of the player he has and D-Rob’s going to make a lot of plays for them because of that.”

Robertson spent 3 years in Athens after starting his career at California. The grad transfer had 99 catches for 1,280 yards and 10 TDs at his 2 previous stops before arriving on The Plains
